The question specifically said "Æ in italics" which I presume also meant in isolation, like a single standing character. I can't think I've ever encountered that, so I'm sort of curious about it too.

Umm, Steve, we most certainly do have Æ. Folks who care about æsthetic
issues in typesetting use it where needed.
