My reaction is that this is a personal opinion of someone who 
wrote the installation guide, instead of some fact about how much 
disk space is required.

If this is a document that you have control over, I would rewrite the 
text so that is factual. The real issue is likely that XX of hard disk 
space is required as a minimum, but better performance will be 
realized with additional disk space.
