Subject:Re: Interviews: Where do you see yourself in 5 years From:Joy Brady-Beer <joy_m_brady -at- yahoo -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 14 Jun 2001 13:47:48 -0700 (PDT)
I've been uncomfortable with this question, but I
figured out why:
- I was worrying about what they wanted me to say ("do
I say I want to manage?")
- I didn't honestly feel I could predict where I'd be
in 5 years even.
My solution to this uncomfortable question:
- I am true to myself. I will say something
authentic.
- As for the prediction of what the future might hold,
if you could wish for it. I think, for a
jack-of-all-trades type, the future is somewhat
unpredictable because your gift to offer is not
long-term predictable growth in one narrow field of
endeavor, but nimbleness and adaptability, the ability
to learn new technologies or tools or ideas, and to
fill in the gaps where you're needed. I have learned
that rather than specifying a specific JOB title for 5
years down the line, I emphasize that these are the
skills I enjoy developing, and I hope to be an even
better version of myself five years hence.
