Subject:Re: About that whacky MS MoS for TPs From:"Susan W. Gallagher" <susanwg -at- ix -dot- netcom -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 22 Jun 2001 10:09:01 -0700
I am frequently amazed at the way that many people
view the folks from MS; particularly in the ways
that we writers either rail against the MS MoS or
follow it slavishly. I have only one comment; know
your audience!
Remember, the products that MS produces are meant
to span the height and width of all the vertical
and horizontal markets in the software industry.
No other single software provider takes on that
wide a target. Even Apple seems to be more focused
than MS. No?
So, you can't possible *adopt* such a style guide for
*your* audience hook, line, and sinker. You have to
*adapt* it to fit your audience's needs.
If you're overlooking the differences between MS's
target audience and your own, you're not doing *all*
of your job.
My two cents.
