I don't mean to be a poop - but that was essentially an advertisement for
Synergistech's services. Yeah, the president was saying how bad the
market is, but it also was real clear that we should all run to him for
our next job. I'd like a ruling from Eric on this. Can I have employees
post newsletters from Anitian on TECHWR-L?
I'd also like to say that Mr. Davis is totally wrong (but he has a good
first name). The market is okay right now - for people with skills. It
sucks hard for people who have limited skills, bad attitudes, or
outlandish salary/rate requirements.
What is happening is that recruiting companies (like Synergistic) are
losing business in droves. There is a company here in town that routinely
beat me to projects because they had an endless supply contracts from ol'
Intel. In the last year, Intel has canned just about every tech writing
contractor they had. They're probably selling the office furniture on Ebay
to keep payroll up.
The recruiting market is abysmal. Its why I abandoned recruiting about a
year ago. I could see the writing on the wall. Most companies have
stopped working with agencies. They either work direct or with consulting
firms that provide solutions and not just warm bodies to full chairs.

PS: STC should also have a Flamingly Stupid Company Name contest. Anybody
who uses the word Write instead of Right in or other lame circa 1997 buzz
words in their name are instantly entered. They could also have the
Ego-Company of the Year award that honors companies named after the
founder (ie. Andrew Hampstermasher and Associates). I'd be a shoe-in for
the Name your Company after a Cat category.
The winner gets a huge pile of smelly cheese.
