So basically, you want a job that will benefit you in the next job? Which
I assume you'll only want the next job to benefit you for the third job,
which you'll want for the fourth, for the fifth, and so on.
Tools are irrelevant, Michele. A good writer can produce useful
documentation in ANY tool, even Notepad. Furthermore, why would anybody
hire you if your sole reason for working there is just so you can learn
enough to move along to another job? If you're not willing to make a
commitment to the company, why should they make a commitment to you?
If you want to learn Frame, RoboHelp etc. do it on your own time. There is
nothing stopping you from learning these tools. Go buy a copy for
yourself. You can get a copy of Frame 5.5 on Ebay for like $100.
Consider it an investment in your career. Then go volunteer for some
organization to write their newsletter in Frame. I am sure there are
numerous small companies that would love a volunteer to help them with
some simple documents.
If you want skills, go get them on your own.
And with all the people getting laid off, you should be happy you have a
job.
Good luck
Andrew Plato
