TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm new at this technical writing business (less than 2 months), and I've
been reading the digest everyday, learning a lot. Now I need your help. The
company I work for is developing a web application on which they want to use
localization, and they want me to "translate" all the menu items and such in
French. I am a French Canadian, so the grammar and syntax don't bother me.
But having done all my "technical" schooling in English, I do not know the
proper technical French terms for the GUI interface.
Could someone please recommend a website, or book, or anything else? The
software they are developing is a GIS software, so if you also happen to
know of French sites for geography/geology terms, I would appreciate that as
well.
Thank you,
Shawna Woods Roy, Technical Writer
