This argument seems to to be leaning towards the technical-writer-who's not-so-technical end of things, what about the other end of the argument? I was hired as a "documentation specialist," with the contractual reassurance that I would be writing on-page content, help files, user guides, etc. Now however, I find my job has changed drastically: I coded our company's new web site, I've been increasingly involved with cleaning up the developers' HTML and Javascript flubs, I've been customizing the company's MS Office tools with VBA, I am also currently the point person for all support calls, both for the internal managemnt system and for our clients' systems; all while still being paid the salary of a tech writer. For me, at least, it seems that if I am going to be required to have the knowledge of a developers AND use it to code, I should at least get paid what they're being paid, which happens to be about twice my current salary. I don't know guys, am I just dreaming that !
