Re: Opinion of a site.
This request is directed to those who have a strong understanding of
web sites where the targeted audience is people with disabilities.
Okay, for starters... all of the menu commands are *buttons* with no alt text. That basically prevents a large portion of the disabled from even using the site.
Also, I'd say that the blinking is just a plain bad idea. All of that flashing "welcome" across the top just seems like it would be aggravating to anyone with partial vision. They would see something flashing but would have no idea what, or if it was important at all!
Why did they put "text version" at the bottom, where it might be off of the page? If you have your "text size" set to large, it's not visible when you first access the screen. In the text version of the page, there's no buttons or links to navigate from one article to the next. Or even a list of articles. If they have text-to-speech, it's not very handy to find an article you're looking for. It's also not a text version of the site... just the articles.
Different pages have all sorts of not-so-easy to read fonts. (example: http://www.able-ezine.org/articles.html) and weird distracting backgrounds (what's wrong with white??)
Also on that Articles page, they have a great list of articles... but you can't click on them! You have to click on the tiny little bullet point *next* to them.
It's also pretty hard to get around the site. You only get some of the "main menu" items on any particular page, not all of them.
And this is just in about 10 minutes of looking at it. ;)
