If you have Adobe Acrobat, any application can produce PDFs in a batch
process.
The basic procedure would be:
1. Print from the application to a file, using the Adobe Acrobat Distiller
print driver (automatically installed when Adobe Acrobat is installed).
2. In Acrobat, set up a set of watched folders.
3. Copy/Move the postscript files to the watched 'In' folder.
4. Launch Acrobat Distiller.
5. When the Distiller dialogs have stopped processing all of the postscript
files, Copy/Move the resultant PDF files from the Distiller 'Out' folder.
Multiple watched folders can also be completed if necessary. One for the
User Guides, one for the Maintenance Manuals, one for the Release Notes,
etc.
If you are planning on using FrameMaker, you have the initial problem of
transferring all of your legacy Interleaf docs. This is not straight
forward. Once in FrameMaker, most of your problems are solved. You still
need to go through the above steps to get a PDF. The advantages are that
FrameMaker works "with" Adobe Acrobat. You can specify bookmarks, like a TOC
but part of the PDF. Adobe Acrobat has additional features that make life in
the PDF world easier to navigate.
