I learned that "an" is used with "history" so that when text is proofed,
typeset, or read it is not confused with the term "ahistorical" or
"ahistoric".

I'd like to know why people insist on using "an" with "history", as in, "an
history lesson". Did someone decide the "h" should be silent?
Sheesh.
