Jeff asks >> what all do medical writers do?

Well, to start, who is the client/customer and who is the end user? Here
are some of the prospective employers:
-- NIH for medical research
-- Pharmaceutical house
-- Medical benefits company, insurance co., etc.
-- Medical equipment co., including medical appliances, prosthetics
-- Medical research journal (The Lancet and New England J. of Medicine down
to hundreds if not thousands of Journals of Obscure Ills)
-- Medical journal, lightly technical
-- Medical textbook publishers (Saunders, etc.)
-- Grant-seeking medical research institutions

Normally you won't survive any of the above (except perhaps the benefits
firm) without a strong biology or allied science background. I believe
foreign medical grads who can't overcome the U.S. medical licensing
examinations barriers and escapees from nursing both offer good talent pools
for this well paid field.

Regards, Alan
