For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I would not send the complete documentation to a user of the standard
edition.
Single-Sourcing would be the best solution for you.
If you intend to produce only PDF files and you use FrameMaker, you are
saved. You only have to set Conditions specific to each variant, and launch
the production with different cobdition settings. For the Online Help
production, you could then use WebWorks Publisher. We use here a tool that
we developed, called "t3 SmartDoc", which is based opn WebWorks Publisher,
except that the writer does not have to bother programming WebWorks
Publisher.
If you use Word, try Doc-To-Help, even if you do not have to produce Online
help: you can set conditions in Doc-To-Help.
