TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Unlike all the other technology-laden movies I've seen, where the
characters just starting typing away at unfamiliar keyboards, the movie
"AI" actually had a piece of technical documentation! There was a
one-page instruction sheet for activating the robot boy's "love"
function. I thought it was great that the mother actually read the
instructions, instead of poking and prodding at the boy to make him
work. But my husband and I are pretty sure that the steps she followed
did not match the number of instructions on the sheet. Has anyone else
observed this?
I thought the lack of legalese (cautions, warnings, etc.) in the
documentation was refreshing. However, I would have included at least
*some* troubleshooting information: "What To Do When Your Robot Tries To
Kill Your Real Children..." (No, that's not really a spoiler.) I hope
that the final shipping version had onboard help; for example, when you
say "Rumpelstiltskin," the child stops what it is doing, explains its
motivations, and suggests context-specific workarounds as needed.
