Everybody in this thread has good suggestions...my additions:
Demonstrate your skills.
Be active, positive, and solution oriented.
Aim a little above your skill.
DEMONSTRATE: Don't just tell me you know X, Y, or Z - give an example. In
each job you have had, you had duties and you acquired skills. Explain
those and then demonstrate it. Provide some examples of your "detail
oriented" nature. Or if you think you're a quick learner - quantify it. "I
became an expert level user of Dreamweaver in less than two week and
proceeded to complete the project ahead of time."
ACTIVE: Use active verbs in your resume "Managed, coordinated, completed,
learned, acquired, mastered, assisted" and so forth. This reads better and
makes you sound enthusiastic. A lot of places will hire somebody who is
enthusiastic but lacking in tech skills over a tech-genius who is a dud. I
would.
AIM HIGH: Craft your resume such that you're aiming just a bit beyond
where you think you are. Not only is this good for career development, but
it forces you to be on-the-ball. Besides, if you ever want to get ahead,
you have to take risks and challenge yourself.
Other than that - try to keep it brief, well organized, and targeted.
Good luck.
