Resume land mines (was For those who hire... what makes a resume stand out)
Subject:Resume land mines (was For those who hire... what makes a resume stand out) From:"Tom Johnson" <johnsont -at- starcutter -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 13 Jul 2001 16:20:20 -0400
There is probably a good reason for avoiding certain classifications (race,
gender, religious affiliation, etc.) on your resume. It may not be a problem
to a potential employer, but it may be a problem to someone who doesn't get
the job and can cry foul because the employer may have taken such
information into consideration. The employer may very well like to hire
someone who has experience working in a particular religious environment,
but the suggestion of any impropriety may make them shy away. My impression
is that employers go to great lengths to avoid lawsuits and if your resume
has a potential land mine, it is likely to go into the trash.
