Subject:NEVER MIND!! (WAS: Slightly OT but need advice on invented verbs (e.g., to gate) From:skwpt <skwpt -at- yahoo -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 19 Jul 2001 05:34:47 -0700 (PDT)
Humblest apologies and I hope to kill this thread
before it spins out of control! (Go ahead and flame me
because sometimes my inner strict grammarian battles
my inner linguist.) I was SO SURE "gated" sounded
wrong, wrong, wrong. But thanks to several twirlers
I've ashamed to admit the transitive verb, gate, has
been around since around 1854!
Still I can't resist (because this is all new to me):
My favorite mangled verbs include: "Reference Table
1-3," (even though it's "correct") and "We architected
it in only 3 months." No one will ever make me use
architect as a verb!
I feel better now! But that's all from me on this
topic before I get a reprimand from Mr. Ray.
