Hi,
Just set up "watched folders" (see the Distiller documentation)--and In and
an Out-- that check for either *.ps or *.prn files. When the Distiller
detects them, it distills them into PDFs and puts them in the Out folder. To
recap:
1. Make sure you have Adobe Acrobat (Used to be sold as "Exchange"), not
just the Reader. Also, make sure you have the latest Adobe Poscript printer
drivers installed on each machine that people use to create these PDFs.
2. Create a folder on your network where Distiller will work. Perhaps you
create a folder called "WordToPDF".
3. Open Distiller and select Settings>Watched Folders to determine where
Distiller will work. It create two folders on your network, one called In
and one called Out. You can set the interval that Distiller uses to check
for PDFable files.
4. In your Word document, select Print to the Adobe PS printer, making sure
the program prints to a file (that is, it creates a file instead of printing
a physical copy).
5. When the print dialog box asks where to save the file and what to call
it, navigate to the In folder that Distiller created. Save the file, making
sure on Wintel that you have a .prn or .ps extension.
6. Wait magic minutes.
7. Open Out and verify that your PDF is there.
Of course, there's a bunch of other instructions in the Acrobat
instructions....but perhaps this gives you and your manager confidence that
it can be done.
All the best,
joe

Hello,
A project manager asked me to come up with an "automated" solution for
converting multiple Word files (up to 400 at a time) into PDF without
having to open them one after another (and possibly without having to
start Word). I have checked http://www.planetpdf.com, http://www.pdfstore.com, and http://www.pdfzone.com/, but to no
avail... Can anyone give me some good advice?..
