Subject:? about medical writing work From:"David Berg" <dberg -at- dmpnet -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Tue, 24 Jul 2001 13:18:35 -0500
This is a question for those of you work/have worked in medical writing.
I'm curious where most of the opportunities are for medical writing type
positions. By that, I mean both geographically, and within corporate
structure.
I used to know a tech writer, one of my past professors, who worked in
medical writing for awhile down at the university hospital in Houston. I
have no idea what department would typically hire tech writers for this sort
of work in that sort of setting. If I had any idea where writers fit into
this sort of hierarchy it would make it somewhat easier to find out about
openings. I live near a couple of major non-teaching hospitals and they do
not employ medical writers, so I'm not sure how much of an opportunity there
is outside of the academic medical world.
Also, outside of the university hospital environment, what are the other
major possibilities for getting into medical writing? And are these
opportunities clustered in any specific areas of the country?
And yes, I do know about the AMWA site. I've browsed around there a little,
but I don't seem to be able to find answers there to my questions.
