You know, I don't think you "need" to go to the technical depths some have
suggested to write documentation...but I do think if you do your docs will
be better. Hmmm, maybe not "better". Let's call it "richer".

A good analogy might be how some novelists approach their characters. A
writer may learn vasts amount of information about a character which never
makes it into a story or book, but the tales are that much richer and fuller
and better realized because the writer knows that information.

It doesn't have to make it into the doc...but the doc will reflect the
knowing, IMHO.
