TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Well, wouldn't you say that some people who call themselves technical
writers are worth about $10 to $20 an hour? (In some cases, that would
be generous.)
Part of it has to do with what the people using the phrase "technical
writer" mean by it. In the cases mentioned, they likely think a
techwriter is little more than a typist with a technical vocabulary, or
a "document-prettier-upper".
But another part of it is the value of the work to the person paying for
it. C'est la vie.
