Econ 101 aside, I'm sure that some people have specific
thought-processes on how they come with a rate for technical writers.

What factors are more important than other factors? 

- Is reliability more valuable than length of service? 
- Is someone with a strong "Get it done-tunnel vision" personality
worth more or less than a "can't we all just get along" personality?
- Is it really as simple as supply and demand?
- etc.
