>Hmmm... I didn't take it as a putdown. It seems to be a commentary on
>the sad fact that Gates and Jobs won't include simple, useful tools that
>they didn't invent.
Since they already include many tools they didn't invent (and even tools
their respective companies didn't invent) that statement just doesn't
compute. But then, I really didn't expect it to. Bigotry is soooo tiresome.
Oh, and for the other dim bulbs out there that might want to follow this
track, my latest machine (from one of the two houses impugned above) *did*
come with a grep tool (though there's so many other better ones, I doubt
I'll ever find a use for it).
>Also, a GUI isn't really necessary for everything.
No, but a coherent user interface is. Note that nowhere in any of my
statements did I require a GUI (though I *did* for contrast mention an old
Atari system which had both a GUI and a CLI). Learn to read before you
start throwing gas on a fire that the rest of the world finds too tedious
to put up with.
Yes I'm being mean, nasty and impertinent. Also obstreporous. I usually am
when the OS wars start to darken the horizon.
Have fun,
