If they put the offer in writing and rescinded,
sue for it. If they didn't, start job hunting
immediately and (as soon as you have an offer
in hand, no need to be suicidal) tell the
management that you will not work with any
company that practices bait-and-switch.
Actually, either way, start job hunting. A
company that lies egregiously to you once will
do so again, so don't give them the chance.
I truly hope I'm not the only one who is bothered by this reply. Why do we
always have to take every little mess as a personal attack? Why can't we
TALK to management first. Is a civil conversation really that much out of
the question? Honestly, sometimes it sounds like some folks are on some kind
of a war path. IT'S NOT ALWAYS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO. Look at the
situation objectively, ask intelligent questions, and weigh the replies.
Maybe the extra money was offered by a low-end manager who thought he/she
could get it but was turned down due to budget freezes. Maybe they wanted to
see how this person performs with the new responsibilities before offering
the pay increase. Maybe it was all a miscommunication.
Honestly, these "bail out NOW!!!" replies are ridiculous. If we ran away
from every little situation before analyzing it and trying to DO SOMETHING
about it, we'd be nowhere.
Stop. Think. Question. Analyze. Act.
