TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Sounds a lot like my day job, and my official job title is Technical
Writer. The company owner told me I could call myself Documentation
Manager, Publications Coordinator, or anything else I like.
Nevertheless, I'm a department of one and the name change wouldn't mean
more $, so I just use Technical Writer.
When a project manager wants a snazzier-sounding title to include in a
proposal, he calls me the End User Documentation Manager.
Sometimes they call me the Wordsmith and occasionally (because I have a
Ph.D.) the Doctor. Every once in a while, someone who is particularly
appreciative of my work on a proposal or a news release calls me the
Word Queen or the Grammar Goddess.
