Subject:Free Lance Rates in Chicago From:George Hook <hookgeorge -at- yahoo -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 6 Aug 2001 13:13:35 -0700 (PDT)
Hi, I'm a (relatively) new member to the lists, and I
have a question for Chicago area members ... or anyone
else who'd like to chime in:
Last week, I did a job for an old employer, who was
happy to use my services, because they were in a rush.
I quoted them $85 an hour, and though they said
they'd accept it, they told me it was not really in
their budget.
After I finished the job, they whined about it, which
put into question any future work with them. Also, I
interviewed with a temp agency today, who seemed taken
aback by that rate, as well.
How do I figure out a fair and reasonable rate for my
services? While I don't want to alienate future
clients, I still (of course) would like to make a
living out of this.
I appreciate any insight you can lend to my question.
Thanks,
George Hook
