Subject:Can you say "Office-X"? (was: PC or Mac?) From:"Jonathan Stoppi" <stops -at- qualum -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Sun, 26 Aug 2001 08:26:15 +0200
Arlen says
>>I can't send Jonathan an Office 10 message about OS X simply because one
of
the joys of Mac-ing is doing without the problems caused by MS software<<
I agree with you in sentiment, Arlen, but in practice, particularly as a
technical writer who has to deal with clients who send you Word and Excel
docs all the time and expect you to do the same, that's a bit like talking -
in 20-30 years from now - about the joys of living without rainforests.
With Sun's recent announcement that they're not developing a Mac version of
Star Office after all (Well done, Sun! That'll show Microsoft...) Apple is
even more a hostage to Microsoft's whims than before.
>>I'm not in it all the time, simply because I can't burn CD's on the
version I have. I'm waiting for the next
version before upgrading to it. <<
Need I say more? For you it's about burning CDs. For me it's about an X
version of FrameMaker, to Joe Bloggs it's about Illustrator, or Filemaker
Pro... to each his own.

My opinion may be a lot of things - but humble it isn't.
