TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Word should work just fine for smaller size pages; Choose the File>>Page
Setup menu item, set page size to "Custom" and then edit the height and
width of the paper. Before doing that you might want to have a chat with
your print vendor to see what sort of production issues might be involved
in the paper size. 5½ x 8½ is exactly half an 8½ x 11 sheet; I'm producing
a document that size right now.
