And to build on Jo's precedent, here's a piece I have pinned to my cube
because I thought it helpful in dealing with the stress of accomplishing
the impossible as part of the daily routine of a tech writer. It seems
especially appropriate under the current circumstances.
Invictus
--------
Out of the night that covers me
Black as the Pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head in bloody but unbowed
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the Shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid
It matters not how straight the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul
--William Ernest Henley
For all those who have expressed sympathies, thanks.
For all those who have lost loved ones, solace.
For all those who are still missing loved ones, strength.
For all those who are helping in the aftermath, courage.
For all those who are maybe still buried alive, prayers.

Terrorists seem to forget that we Americans are a proud people; our pride
is the pride of the people of all nations, whose own flesh and blood built
this country. We're very proud of our blood, and the paths it took to get
here from all over the world. We do not tolerate someone spilling it in
unprovoked attack. Such an attack will not cow this nation, any more than
an attack upon children would cow their mother: it will bring one moment of
terror, a rapid reassurance of the safety of surviving offspring, and then
a great deal of rage, as the nation responds in protection of her own flesh
and blood. Once the immediate threat is over, there is mourning, and a
strengthened alertness that will make it harder to succeed at such an
attack again.
