Situation: Long document (100 pages) created in Word
to be converted to HTML.
After laboriously changing the doc from Word to HTML
using Word's built-in conversion, then crashing
DreamWeaver (DW) by trying to use its Word clean-up
tool, and finally doing a lot of handwork, I end up
with a reasonable HTML doc --but no TOC.
First attempt: I open the clean HTML doc in Word and
click Insert/Index and Tables/Table of Contents. In
one second Word generates a beautiful HTML TOC.
Then I save the file and take a look at it in
Ultraedit to see if there's any cleanup needed on
the TOC code.
ARGH! Word has not only added a TOC, but TOTALLY
PROCESSED all my nice clean HTML, adding about 300 K
of unnecessary tags and special characters!
Second attempt: I hand-build a TOC. This works. Now I
am writing a macro in Ultraedit to generate a TOC from
heading tags. If anyone already has this macro, I'd
like a copy.
