Hi all,
I hope someone can help me with these questions and recommend a good Linux book....

Try "Running Linux" from O'Reilly and Associates. "Linux in a Nutshell" from the same publisher is a useful summary of commands. You should also be able to find a number of books for your particular distribution, unless it's an obscure one.

client whose app runs on Linux. I have a laptop with win95 and
Linux.

1) How do I do screen captures in Linux?

There are several programs, but the easiest is the screen capture utility in the GIMP. Chances are that your Linux distribution installs the GIMP by default. Type "gimp" at the command line and see.

2) How to save screen captures?

In most cases, File > Save ought to do it.

3) How to transfer graphics files to Windows environment?

The easiest way might be to copy to a CD, since the CD format is independent of the operating system.

If you're lucky, support for Window's FAT32 was compiled for you during installation; and read/write support is automatically enabled in the /etc/fstab file for those partitions. Both these features are very common as part of installations these days.

If you're unlucky, you have to recompile the kernel to enable FAT 32 support, and edit /etc/fstab. However, both these operations are far too complicated to explain here.

4) Does Linux recognize zip drives?

The short answer is "yes." If the zip was connected during installation, it might have been detected automatically. Some distributions will also detect new hardware during bootup. However, again, you may need to recompile the kernel.
