TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I work in the DC area as my group's only documentation specialist. I've been
working in the technical field for 8 years (four of which as a techie in
college). I have a degree in German Language. I landed in the technical
writing field because I was tired of working on the help desk and I like
being a word smith. I have decent writing skills, but I feel like I don't
know enough about the technical skills of writing documentation. Most of
what I know is self taught and instict (which seems to be pretty good most
of the time.) I feel like I'm reaching the end of my ingenuity and want to
hook up with someone who really knows how to write technical documentation.
Does anyone know where I could find some quality training that will help me
get up to speed? Most of what I do is writing End User and Server
Adminastration documentation with some email forms and Newsletter articles.
Thanks.
