Perhaps the clarification that it saves expense for the publisher is of some
use. That is, if the reader wants it in print it's his/her nickel (USA
currency example). And possibly sort of a CYA for times when the
environment police come calling, perhaps sort of like those brown napkins at
the hamburger or taco store.

re: paperless office is a myth

It's an exaggeration, as are many cliches, catch phrases, etc. It's of
course in reality *less* paper, not no paper. Think if everyone mailed in a
paper form to order a book from Amazon. What's a better two-word phrase to
describe this? "E-commerce" (yes, one word) doesn't quite immediately say
the same thing.


I'm (still) for online documentation. And, frankly, the "printer friendly
version" notion is a bit of a "full employement act" for tech writers,
because we now get to make at least two versions of our documents.
