This may be the key to it all. The Training Manual
>From H. has a narrow text area leaving wide white
margins under outdented, reversed headings (white on
black bars) that differ in width according to level.
This attempt at stylishness looked good when it worked
but was extremely hard to maintain, especially since
example code and big illustrations wouldn't fit in the
normal margins and had to be adjusted manually, style
by style and sometimes paragraph by paragraph.
If I ever get coerced into doing another large doc in
Word, I'll try using very simple margins, no gutters,
and so on and see if the results are better.
