I've seen something like this happen when "weird" fonts (embedded or not)
are used in the document. For instance, I have trouble with Interleaf's
Swiss font (a lot like Helvetica) and Math symbols. I never intentionally
use Swiss, and try to avoid the Math symbols as well.

When I search for these, I have to be careful, because the fonts can be
embedded in drawings or headers and cause all kinds of problems.
