I would not notice the absence of hobbies on a technical writer resume. I
think inclusion of relevant volunteer work (for example, VP of Board of
Directors for the City Community Theatre) is appropriate. It shows
initiative and responsibility. However, I would not miss it being on a
resume.

I do hate when people list irrelevant memberships. STC and other
professional groups are fine. But I don't want to see political and
religious affiliations.
