UPDATE:
Something Wally said privately just gave me pause.
I note that my home PC and my new (to me) laptop
both have ATI video cards, and both give the hyperkinetic
scrolling/selecting problem.
I believe my previous system -- that did not show the problem --
had a video card from a different supplier.
Among those who are experiencing this annoyance, does
anybody have a video card with unrelated chipset?
Not ATI nor any third-party chipset that they use?
On the third hand, I notice that the problem does not
seem to appear when scrolling long e-mails in Outlook
on the same system. If it's hardware-related, it's
pretty selective...
