TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Tina says, "Like around the dinner table with family, we eat heartily while
we throw debates around the table. People outside our circle would probably
think we are mean to each other, but we are all comfortable with our
opinions and how we get them across."
My feelings exactly. Even though we have never met, and may live and work
thousands of miles apart, I feel like we gather around the watercooler every
day to do what any co-workers would do: laugh, cry, complain, debate, and
throw in a controversy now and then just to keep the conversation lively.
If my whole work experience revolved around the developers at this company
(30+ of them, compared to 2 tech writers), I would have gone stark raving
mad in a week. (Some of them, even the ones born and raised in the US,
don't speak English -- or any other language -- fluently!)
I try to always give polite responses, but have been known to become
sarcastic or testy on occasion -- usually on a Friday afternoon. When I do,
please remember that I will go home, recharge my batteries, and be ready to
go again on Monday!
