Geoff,

So you don't separate traditional from technical usage...very interesting.
When I asked a very senior writer here this question, her answer was that
using italics or underlining rhetorically is just fine when the context of
the sentence makes it so obvious that you are doing so for emphasis and not
to represent something from the program. I thought that was a great answer.
However, you have made me re-think our entire process. Very interesting,
indeed.
