Hi Stan,
You asked about resources for your new graphic design class for TWs:
"...Can you offer suggestions for course content/exercises that might be
beneficial in such a course?..."
Congrats on a great opportunity! For some initial ideas, you might want
to check out the resource list maintained by our very own Rays, right
here on the Techwr-L site:
Specifically, you can find various resources by clicking Graphics,
Design, etc.
As someone else mentioned, Robin Williams' books on design always make a
great start. I also like your idea about structuring information
visually (i.e., storyboard, etc.). If any of your students/writers are
more inclined to express themselves textually, a lesson of that type
might be particularly helpful.
If you don't have access to PCs in your class, you can at least explain
the basic concepts behind a graphics editing program and publishing
program of your choice. If you do have access to PCs, great! You can
give them a hands-on tour of any of these programs.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Laura
