TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Meena S has a boss who feels that <<... as part of "Organisational
Development" activities, I should work on a White Paper on something related
to my field- Technical Writing, Communication and so on. That sounds good
to me, but the catch is I am not able to choose a topic... any ideas?>>
Be mercenary about this: choose a topic that's important in the context of
whatever is currently "really hot" at your workplace, and do a wicked good
job on developing this topic. Talk to people involved in this project to
find out what they need done, and what the audience for the project needs to
hear. When you're done, these people will remember you, and others who never
see you but read your work will remember your name, and that's currency you
can trade on later--whether for a promotion, a career change, or even just
an occasional really interesting change of pace from the daily documentation
grind.
