Folks,

Several people have recommended the traditional glyphs of a crossed b or a staple (cup, whatever you wanna call it), and either of those works fine.

Other people have suggested brackets, hash marks, and pipes. These, most emphatically, do NOT work fine. The reason is that all of these glyphs have specific meanings in any number of programming languages. Thus they would be ambiguous. (Am I s'pozeta type a pipe or am I s'pozeta type a space?) Remember, the original question was about indicating spaces _in code samples_!
