Great point Sandy. A classic case in point was in the early eighties when
mainframe DB packages really started taking off. They were quoting some many
transactions per second and companies were basing their decisions purely on
that. After their processors ran mad for a while, they wised up and
discovered the 'faster' db's weren't releasing multi-tasking as often as
they should.
As everyone is saying, the selection of the features to compare is really
the tricky bit.

...But, for computer products, do they require more memory or a faster
processor?
For cars, how do the extras affect fuel economy?
On a computer, do the extras mean more bugs? In a car, how do they affect
maintenance costs?
Do they complicate the interface? On a computer, can I do simple things
quickly and efficiently, or are there 7 layers of menus? On a car, how
does the cruise control or ABS system affect driving feel?...
