Cisco no longer ships printed manuals automatically with the products. BUT:

* You CAN buy a bound, printed copy.

* The whole manual is available online as hyperlinked pdf and html (through
the cisco.com website and usually on the software installation medium as
well), not just online help.

* The online help is context-specific; that is, you get the information
pertinent to the context in which you're working. The manuals are a
coherent, sequential presentation of relevant information; they're just in
electronic form, not paper.

* You can search the entire site and print a manual, a topic, a page, or
about anything you want.

FWIW, internally, if we want a printed, bound copy (even of the stuff we've
written ourselves) WE have to buy it, too!

As Tom indicated, it's the way of the commercial software world now. It DOES
cut costs for the vendors, but it transfers the cost of production to the
buyers. I'm not sure whether it really does save trees.
