A word doesn't have to be mainstream for it to still be a word. How
many times do you use quantum in day to day conversation? Chances are
that if you don't have a PhD in physics, you don't use it every day,
yet would anyone dispute that it is a legitimate word?

I though the problem was with words that are made up. A word such as
prepend is not "made up", it is simply used in a very limited
situation.

Notice in the example at the end of this post, it was used by a
programmer.
