For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
One point that was always made in my last job (where we had the luxury
of functional and design specs) ws that our job was to document the system
as it was suppposed to work, now how they made it work.
Documentation and software were developed in parallel, to the same
specs. Both the documentation and the software were evaluated against the
specs. Many of the problems with the software were unearthed when it did not
behave/look the way the documentation said it should.
I miss that place.
