Karen Black reports: <<I'm using Word 2K on Win2K, and I'm annoyed that,
when I create a new table using the Insert Table toolbar button, whatever
text I paste or type into the cells defaults to French. The template default
language is US English (so of course it highlights any -our spellings).>>
I can't speak about Word 2000, since I'm still happily using Word 97, but
you should be able to fix this problem easily enough. Next time you create a
table, place the cursor inside the cells and look at the toolbar to see what
style name is being applied to the table text. (It's often named something
like "TableText".) Open your "Normal" template, edit this style so that it
uses US English, and save and close the template. Reapply the Normal
template to your open document, and all text typed into tables should
henceforth be styled as US English. (Depending on how Word 2000 updates
already-styled text, you may have to select any existing table text and
press Control-Spacebar, which removes all manual formatting and reapplies
the basic style. This is a common workaround in Word 97, which won't overide
manually applied formatting (e.g., bold) when you apply a new style to a
paragraph.)
