> Anyway, ethics don't just apply to industries (porn bad, defense
> yuck) but also to businesses with supposedly honorable industries.
Can you have an ethical porn company and an unethical retail company?
Company A, the porn company (hypothetical)...based on the
transactions specific to that business, you have a porn company that
gives very good value for the dollar, honors questionable credit card
charges without question, do more than what is required to filter out
underage (they actualy speak to the customer on the phone before
subscribing), has great access speed running state-of-the-art network
gear, and their files are always the most current. They treat their
employees well, give liberal bonus, train and promote from within,
and 60% of their management is women or minority. All the things you
would want from a company (except that their subject involves sex,
which is legal).
OTOH, Company B, the retail company shafts everyone, skims from the
books, doesn't honor credits, runs sales with only one item in stock
and substitutes rain checks for inventory that never seems to show up
on the shelf. Treats the employees like crap.
Obviously, Company B is not ethical? What about Company A? They are
selling a legal product, they pay taxes that go toward education
social issues.
