During leaner times, when I was driving a truck for a living,
one of the drivers on our crew was studying to be a corrections officer
(prison guard). When I asked him why, he answered, "Job stability. There's
always gonna be bad guys. Somebody's gotta keep them locked up."
He made a good point. Other than the funeral/undertaking industry, I can
think of few other lines of work with such a guaranteed clientele.
Response:
The company at which I was contracting shut down its local operations last
week and let everybody go. Most of us knew it was coming; we just hoped that
we could hang on until something else came along.
One of the programmers, however, was busy attending bartender school in the
mornings. He explained that when times are good, people drink. When times
are tough, people drink more.
So if anyone has any leads in southern Arizona, send them my way. I have
military and GPS experience, and would go back to either.
