Not really. So far as I can see, you're not supposed to care about design in UNIX ;-), and Linux has followed the same philosophy until recently.

What I was referring to was that UNIX/Linux hasn't been the platform of choice for designers. They have a reputation of being platforms for hardcore geeks, who are not usually overly interested in fonts or white space.
FrameMaker has a long history on UNIX (although Adobe axed the Linux beta last year, unfortunately), but those who use it as a word processor are surprised when I tell them that it can be used with reasonable satisfaction for brochures and simple to moderate layouts.
